Clayton, East Manchester

TRANSCRIPT

Bill Booth was one of the first housing campaigners I met when I started covering Pathfinder, or Housing Market Renewal. A former trades union man from East Manchester, his corner of Clayton has been suffering from decline and neglect for years. Regeneration has been promised and is happening in nearby areas but Booth and his neighbours still don’t know whether their houses are meant to be staying up or coming down. The result is that this tight-knit and often house-proud community are living in a state of limbo. Very little has changed for them since my original story for the Big Issue in the North.
